A 128 TOPS Robotics Board Arrives at $899 With Real-Time Cores
D-Robotics puts six Cortex-A78AE application cores and four lockstep-capable Cortex-R52+ cores on one module, aiming at the gap Jetson leaves between perception and deterministic control.

D-Robotics has put its RDK S100P developer kit on sale, and the specification is aimed at a gap rather than at a benchmark. Six Arm Cortex-A78AE cores at 2.0 GHz handle the application load, a Nash BPU accelerator is rated at 128 TOPS INT8 with vendor-claimed support for more than 160 ONNX operators, and a Mali-G78AE GPU adds 100 GFLOPS.
The part that distinguishes it sits alongside those: four Cortex-R52+ real-time cores at 1.2 GHz, on the same package. On a conventional design, perception runs on an application processor and deterministic motion control runs on a separate safety microcontroller on a separate board, with a link between them that somebody has to specify, debug and certify. Putting both on one module removes that link.
The AE suffix on both the application and GPU cores is the other signal. It denotes Arm's automotive-enhanced variants, which support lockstep execution — the redundancy arrangement functional-safety arguments are usually built on. A vendor choosing AE cores for a developer board is signalling where the silicon is expected to end up.
The rest of the kit is conventional and generous: 24 GB of LPDDR5 on a 96-bit bus at up to 6400 Mbps, 64 GB of eMMC plus an M.2 NVMe socket, two Gigabit Ethernet ports, four USB 3.0 Type-A, one USB 2.0 Type-C, three MIPI CSI-2 camera inputs and an M.2 E-Key slot for wireless. Power is 12 to 20 V DC, a 90 W adapter ships with it, and the board draws up to 150 W in a 121 by 120 by 51 mm footprint.
The comparison the vendor invites is with NVIDIA's Jetson Orin NX 16GB, quoted at up to 100 sparse INT8 TOPS at 25 W with eight Cortex-A78AE cores and no equivalent real-time complex. Pricing runs from $899 at DFRobot to $999.99 at Waveshare.
The wattage difference matters as much as the price. A 150 W ceiling against 25 W is a different thermal design and a different enclosure, which rules the board out of some of the sealed, fanless installations where Jetson modules currently sit. What it buys is a single module that can both see and move something, which is the harder problem in most machine-building projects.
