A 36-Gram Gateway That Speaks DNP3, BACnet and DLMS

Teltonika's Oxa is built to be designed into an OEM's own product rather than bolted on beside it: Cortex-A7, six industrial protocols, -40 to 75 degrees, under five watts.

Teltonika introduced Oxa on 14 September, an embedded industrial IoT gateway aimed at OEMs who want connectivity inside their equipment rather than in a second box next to it.

The hardware is modest and deliberate: a 1.3 GHz Arm Cortex-A7, 128 MB of DDR2 RAM, 512 MB of SPI flash, LTE Cat 4 at up to 150 Mbps down and 50 up, Gigabit Ethernet, a mini SIM slot, an SMA antenna connector, micro-USB, one digital input and one digital output. It runs on 9 to 30 VDC, draws under 5 W, works from -40 to 75 degrees Celsius, and measures 70 by 18.2 by 67.7 mm at 36 grams.

The protocol list is the selling point. Modbus TCP, OPC UA, DNP3, BACnet/IP, DLMS/COSEM, MQTT and Teltonika's Data to Server all ship on the same part, with OpenVPN, IPsec, WireGuard and ZeroTier for tunnelling, on RutOS with an SDK build environment and package manager.

Paulius Ruginis, embedded product owner at Teltonika, put the positioning plainly: OEMs increasingly want industrial connectivity to become part of their own product rather than adding a separate networking device alongside it.

DLMS/COSEM and BACnet/IP sitting in the same firmware as DNP3 and OPC UA is unusual, and useful. A manufacturer selling into metering, building services and utility telemetry can carry one part number instead of three gateway SKUs and configure per application. The environmental figures do the rest of the work: -40 degrees and sub-5 W put it inside a cabinet with no fan and no spare power budget, which is where most of these designs have to live.
