Fourteen Cores in a Fanless Box

Advantech's UNO-2484V3 puts a 15 W Arrow Lake-U Core Ultra with up to 14 cores, 64 GB of DDR5, four M.2 slots and three 2.5GbE ports into a fanless −20 to 60 °C enclosure.

Advantech has launched the UNO-2484V3, a fanless edge computer built on Intel's 15-watt Arrow Lake-U Core Ultra Series 2 processors in Core Ultra 5 and 7 variants, with up to 14 CPU cores and 12 MB of L3 cache. It takes dual-channel DDR5-6400 across two SO-DIMM slots to 64 GB, and offers four M.2 slots — B-key, E-key and two M-key — for NVMe storage, with an optional stack for two replaceable 2.5-inch SSDs. I/O runs to four RS-232/422/485 serial ports, three USB 3.2 Type-A and two Type-C, with HDMI 1.4, DisplayPort++ and the Type-C ports for video. Networking is one gigabit and three 2.5GbE ports plus a nano-SIM slot for cellular. It accepts 10 to 36 VDC, operates from −20 to 60 °C, takes iDoor expansion modules for fieldbuses and wireless, and is supported on Windows 11 LTSC and Advantech's EdgeLinux.

The specification that identifies what this is really for is the three 2.5-gigabit ports. That is a machine-vision configuration: GigE Vision cameras at 2.5 Gb/s each, on separate segments so their bandwidth does not contend, feeding a processor with enough cores to run inference alongside the acquisition. The four M.2 slots point the same way — local NVMe for image retention, plus wireless and an accelerator option. This is an inspection cell controller more than it is a general gateway.

The interesting engineering constraint is the thermal one. Fourteen cores at a 15-watt package power in a sealed enclosure rated to 60 °C ambient means the part will spend meaningful time at its sustained rather than its peak clock, and that is the right way to think about specifying it. Benchmarks published at a 28-watt or unconstrained power limit do not describe this machine; what matters is throughput over a shift in a cabinet, which is a number to establish on the bench with the real workload before the design is committed.

Two practical notes for anyone evaluating it. Four serial ports on a 2026 edge computer is not a legacy indulgence — it is an acknowledgement that the scale, the barcode reader, the label printer and the old PLC on the same cell all still speak RS-232 or RS-485, and putting them on one machine avoids four converters and four more things to fail. And the 10 to 36 VDC input is what allows this to run from the panel's existing 24 V supply rather than needing its own, which in a retrofit is frequently the difference between a straightforward installation and an electrical job.
