Infineon Adds a RISC-V Microcontroller Family to AURIX
Infineon is extending its automotive AURIX line with RISC-V parts, placing the open architecture alongside its established TriCore and Arm-based portfolio.

Infineon is introducing an automotive RISC-V microcontroller family under the AURIX brand, extending a portfolio that already spans its own TriCore architecture and Arm-based parts.
Automotive is a demanding place for an architecture to arrive. Qualification cycles are long, functional safety certification is expensive, and the software written against a platform tends to outlive several hardware generations, so vendors change architecture reluctantly. A tier-one supplier committing RISC-V parts to a safety-critical automotive line is a stronger signal of maturity than any number of evaluation boards.
The strategic reading is about supply and licensing rather than instruction sets. An open architecture reduces dependence on a single licensor's roadmap and pricing, which after several years of supply disruption is a board-level concern rather than an engineering preference. For teams outside automotive, the useful inference is that RISC-V toolchains and safety collateral are maturing under pressure from customers with the least tolerance for risk.
