Infineon Launches the First 20 MHz Wi-Fi 7 Device Aimed at IoT
The AIROC ACW741x connected MCU series combines Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0 with channel sounding and 802.15.4 Thread on one part, with Matter support.

Infineon has launched the AIROC ACW741x series of connected microcontrollers, described as the industry's first 20 MHz Wi-Fi 7 device aimed at IoT rather than at laptops and access points. The parts combine tri-band Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0 including channel sounding, and IEEE 802.15.4 for Thread in a single device, with support for the Matter ecosystem.
The 20 MHz qualifier is the interesting part. Wi-Fi 7's headline numbers come from very wide channels — up to 320 MHz — which are irrelevant to a device sending sensor readings and actively harmful to its power budget. A 20 MHz implementation takes the parts of the standard that matter at this end of the market, notably multi-link operation and better behaviour in congested spectrum, without the radio cost of the parts that do not.
Combining three radios on one part addresses a recurring board-level problem rather than a protocol one. A device that must join a home network, pair with a phone, and talk to low-power sensors has historically needed more than one chip, more than one antenna design and more than one software stack to keep current. Whether this consolidation is worth it depends on how much of the integration is real and how much is three stacks sharing a package, which is the question to ask of any combo part.
