Siemens Wants the Digital Twin to Arrive Before the Machine
The Meet at the Machine initiative ships a digital copy of a machine tool the day after the purchase order, so programming and validation happen while the machine is still being built.

A new CNC machine often sits idle for weeks after delivery. Post-processors need sorting, fixtures need making, programmes need proving, and none of that could start until the machine was on the floor. Siemens launched Meet at the Machine at IMTS 2026 to attack that gap, with TRAK Machine Tools as first partner.
The mechanism is simple enough to describe: a digital copy of the machine is delivered the day after the purchase order. Programming, simulation and validation move ahead of physical delivery, and Siemens claims ramp-up time can fall by up to 50 percent. The framework combines Siemens engineering software, automation hardware and the machine builder's own expertise, and is positioned as a continuous digital thread connecting engineering, programming, virtual validation and execution.
Mark Hindsbo, who heads operations software at Siemens, framed the intent as enabling customers and users to be productive faster by bringing software, hardware and machine expertise together. Steve Pinto, president of TRAK Machine Tools, described the approach as focused on customer outcomes.
The reference case carries more weight than the claims. Rusch Maschinenteile, a German manufacturer, used a SINUMERIK ONE digital twin on a DMG MORI machine and reported cycle times down around 20 percent, with up to 80 percent of manual programming tasks eliminated through automated shopfloor programming. Those are measured numbers on a named machine at a named company, which is rarer in digital twin coverage than it should be.
The commercial framing is workforce shortage and complexity — preparing production before machines arrive. The quieter argument is capital: a machine bought and not cutting is money doing nothing, and the finance department understands that without any explanation of what a digital thread is.
